In addition to Google’s Credit Card Comparison tool, Google has just announced they’ve added a new member to the Google Compare family with Google Compare for U.S. car insurance, although “U.S.” right now means “California.”
According to Google research, 80% of drivers feel that they would be able to find a better car insurance provider if they were able to compare different insurance providers. Well, no bad word. That’s why there already a ton of sites out there that do exactly that. In fact, when I did a search for “compare California car insurance” to see where Google had placed their new baby in search engine results, there were a ton of results. In fact, to my mild surprise, Google’s was the last result on the page, although it was on page one.
Mind you, I don’t have a problem with Google providing a variety of [Insert Industry Here] Comparison sites – in fact, I think it’s a good thing – but it seems odd to present it as thought it’s a brand new thing that’s never been tried before. At any rate, the service works like basically all other insurance comparison sites.
You can highlight what makes your business unique, whether that’s an “A” rating in customer service or better discounts for safe drivers. And when users adjust their deductible or add additional cars to their quote, you can show updated pricing that matches their needs. They can then buy their policy online or over the phone through one of your agents.
As with most Google tools, you’ve got to pay to play, so insurance companies can expect to fork over money based on cost-per-acquisition. However, the amount of money you pay has no effect on your ranking in search results.
