New in AdWords: mobile app ads, video analytics & improved countdown widget

Google has announced a variety of updates in the last few days, including publishing two new white papers on mobile app ads, improved video analytics and a reminder about ad customizers, which includes the launch of the new countdown widget.

Mobile App White Papers

We’ve written about how the competition for mobile advertising for app installs is revving up, and Google has produced two white papers to help advertisers boost app installs as well as increasing engagement after an install.

The Tapping into Mobile App Installs whitepaper covers:

  • Determining the value of each user
  • Ad creation
  • Conversion tracking
  • Advertising on display, search and YouTube
  • Fine tuning your advertising

The Tapping into Mobile App Engagement white paper deals with:

  • Tracking how people use your app once it’s installed
  • Crafting messages for different user types
  • Setting up custom deep links in your app
  • Creating ads for search and display

AdWords for Video Analytics Page

Prior to this update, you had to go to YouTube Analytics to get information about how your videos were doing outside of when ads showed up. However, this information is now going to be available through the AdWords for Video reporting system. Along with showing both how paid and non-paid videos are doing, you’ll also have access to the audience retention graph, which shows when audiences drop off while watching your videos. This information can help you figure out when you’re losing viewer attention.

Ad Customizers and the new countdown widget

Along with reminding you that you can use ad customizers, Google has created a video showing you how they can be used.

Additionally, they’ve announced a new countdown widget that makes it easier to add countdowns to your ads as well as giving you the ability to preview these ads before they go live. According to Google:

Now, you can easily set up a countdown to an event just by typing “{=” into any line of ad text as you’re creating text ads in the ‘Ads’ tab.
